SCENE SEEN
We live in just a few frames
of the film that tells the epic tale
of existence,
and, through careful study of our moment,
we believe we can grasp the whole picture.
Maybe,
assuming the plot’s logical
and our faith
(founded in cause and effect)
is unerring,
we can work out the script
to a degree close enough to precise
that we might even guess what may come next
or puzzle out how things came to this point
within the spectacle that’s now showing,
but at this point we can’t even agree
if we are acting out a tragedy
or playing in a burlesque comedy.
