THEN AS NOW

THEN AS NOW

The first paintings on walls in a cave

by Cro-Magnons were really quite brave.

In the Arts, life was tough.

Early critics were rough,

and, at openings, few would behave.

It is interesting to realize that most cave art was actually done by women.  The assumption that cavemen painted cave art was dispelled when someone finally took a close look at the (handprint) signatures.  Even scenes depicting successful hunts are no longer thought to be an historical record by the participants. It is believed the art was done by stay at home wives praying for or bragging about their mate’s prowess as a hunter.
