UNABLE TO PULL IT TOGETHER
No particle known is unaffected
by gravity’s inexorable force,
but, perhaps it was not yet perfected
at the Big Bang, which was everything’s source.
The entire mass of the Universe
lacked the density to form a black hole
but instead expanded, which seems perverse,
as though gravity failed to play its role.
We’ve no idea what drove this inflation.
Atoms weren’t born, so it wasn’t fusion.
And now we observe acceleration –
unless this should prove to be illusion.
From distant galaxies, the spectrum’s shift
to red says we’re headed for a Big Rift.
